This month we celebrate Veterans Day on Friday, November 11th.

If you’re a military veteran or currently serving, many local restaurants and businesses offer you and your family nice discounts and freebies. For some locations you will need to call or visit and verify they are participating as they might be a franchise.

FAMILY FUN

Everybody gets free entrance to our National Parks on Veterans Day.  Dates this year include November 11, 2016. View http://www.nps.gov for more details.

On November 11th, 2016  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is waiving all day use fees at more than 2,400 recreation areas nationwide. This waiver is available to all veterans, active and reserve component service members, and their families. Only verbal confirmation of service is required. Click HERE to find a location in Virginia. B&B For Vets- Participating B &B’s offer a minimum of one room for free. Some innkeepers may offer more free nights – this will be noted in their descriptions. All veterans and active military interested in participating in B&Bs for Vets must show proof of military service in order to qualify for free rooms.

Belle Hearth Bed & Breakfast (Waynesboro) Offers discounts to veterans and active duty and The Shenandoah National Park is free on Friday!

Colonial Williamsburg is offering FREE admission tickets to active duty military, guard, reservists, retirees, veterans and their dependents Friday through Monday November 11-14.

Mariners’ Museum & Park :  Military , Veterans and FAMILY (up to 4) will receive free admission to the Museum on Veterans Day.

Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello offers FREE admission for military Veterans November 11-13, 2016.  Admission is only for the regular daily House Tour and Grounds Ticket.

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, offers FREE admission to military members and the general public!

 

FOOD DEALS:

  • Applebee’s: At participating Applebee’s , Veterans and Active Duty Military can select a free meal from a limited menu for Veteran’s Day. Provide proof of service required.
  • Bob Evans: FREE all-you-can-eat pancakes.
  • California Pizza Kitchen: Veterans and active duty military get a FREE entrée from a limited menu.
  • Carrabba’s: Free appetizer for active and retired military members who show proof of service (either in uniform or a military ID).
  • Cheeseburger in Paradise: FREE All-American burger with fries for active and retired military personnel. (Valid with any beverage purchase of $1.99 or more.)
  • Chick-fil-A – Not all franchises are participating, but some are offering free meals to all veterans and active duty. Identification is required
  • Cracker Barrel Old Country Store : Veterans receive a complimentary Double Chocolate Fudge Coca-Cola® Cake dessert to veterans and an opportunity for guests to make purchases that support the United Service Organizations (USO).  Veterans Day only.
  • Denny’s: All active, inactive and retired military personnel at all participating Denny’s restaurants nationwide will receive a free Build Your Own Grand Slam breakfast.
  • Famous Dave’s: FREE One Meat Salute (one meat, a corn muffin and a side) from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Friendly’s : Friendly’s is treating veterans and active military, with a valid military ID or honorable discharge card, to a free dine-in breakfast, lunch or dinner from select menus on Veteran’s Day. The breakfast choice is their Big-Two-Do’s® array of breakfast options, and the lunch and dinner option is the All American Burger with fries and a beverage (soda, iced tea or hot beverage).
  • Fuddruckers: FREE All-American burger with fries for active and retired military personnel. (Valid with any beverage purchase of $1.99 or more.)
  • Golden Corral: Golden Corral’s annual Military Appreciation Dinner on Monday, Nov. 14 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Get a FREE meal.
  • Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream: One FREE single-scoop ice cream cone for all veterans and military personnel with a valid military ID.
  • Hooters: Hooters invites all veterans and current servicemen and women to a free meal, up to $10.99 in value with any drink purchase, by presenting a military ID or proof of service at any Hooters location across the country.
  • IHOP: Free Red, White, and Blue pancakes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Kangaroo Express: Purchase a grill item for just 25 cents (one per guest, while supplies last).
  • Krispy Kreme: FREE doughnut (any variety) and a small coffee. A free doughnut and small coffee will be given to anyone who identifies themselves as a veteran or active duty military personnel (no ID required). Only at participating locations.
  • Little Caesars: Free Crazy $5 HOT-N-READY Lunch combo from 11am-2pm at participating Little Caesars Pizza locations for US Veterans and Active Military . Must present a valid military ID.
  • Lone Star Steakhouse: Veterans & Active military enjoy a select free starter all day Veterans Day.
  • LongHorn Steakhouse: FREE Texas Tonion and non-alcoholic beverage for veterans and active duty military personnel.
  • Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt: FREE 6-oz. frozen yogurt. Show a valid ID or be in uniform to receive.
  • Mission BBQ : Veterans and active-duty military will get a free sandwich after the National Anthem at noon on Veterans Day.
  • O’Charley’s Free Meal: All veterans and all active-duty military personnel will have their choice of one of nine meals on the O’Charley’s “$9.99er” menu. Options include O’Charley’s Famous Chicken Tenders & Twisted Chips, Cowboy Sirloin, Homestyle Chicken Pot Pie and Santa Fe Tilapia, among others.
  • Olive Garden: FREE entrée including, freshly baked garlic breadsticks and a choice of unlimited soup or salad.
  • Outback Steakhouse: Free Bloomin’ Onion and a beverage.
  • Petro Stopping Centers: All Military Vets, come enjoy a free meal on Petro at participating full service restaurants. Must show proof of service.
  • Red Hot & Blue:Veterans, Active Duty, Retirees and Reservists receive a free meal with the purchase of a second meal of equal or greater value. Proof of military service required. Dine-in only. Print and present the coupon before ordering.
  • Red Lobster Free App : Service members past and present receive a complimentary appetizer or dessert from a special menu. Proof of service required.
  • Red Robin: FREE Tavern Double burger with Bottomless Steak Fries.

  • Travel Centers Of America, All CDL drivers who are also veterans will get a Veterans Day free meal at participating full service restaurants on Veterans Day.
  • Uno’s free entrée or pizza with a purchase : With a Military or Veteran ID, entrees are buy one get one free, and anyone who presents this ticket will donate 20% of your total check to Fisher House Veterans Association
  • Village Inn: FREE breakfast, with a choice of buttermilk pancakes, a Belgian waffle or French Toast

Alfred Angelo Bridal Store, a bridal store will give military brides free wedding dresses designed by Alfred Angelo, America’s favorite bridal store.

Grace For Vets, a non-profit organization, honors those who have served or are currently serving their country. This international program unites the car wash industry each year on November 11. Whether observing Veterans Day, Remembrance Day or Armistice Day, we unite together as a whole, and provide FREE car washes to ALL veterans and service personnel.

Great Clips, Veterans can come into any U.S. Great Clips salon on Nov.11 and receive a free haircut that day or receive a free haircut card to be used before the end of the year.

Home Depot, offers a 10% discount to all veterans on Veterans Day November 11. Home Depot offers the 10% discount year round to active duty and retirees. 

Lowes, All veterans receive 10% discount on Veterans Day. Offer valid in-store only.

Payless ShoeSource, is proud to offer a 10% military discount off purchases every day, including sale items (To include their popular BOGO SALE buy one get one 50% off deal) with a military id!

Rack Room Shoes– Military personnel and their dependents get a 10% discount off entire purchase on Veterans Day.

Commonwealth’s Veterans Day Ceremony – Ceremony and keynote speaker in conjunction with the 11th District American Legion, 10 -11am at the Virginia War Memorial, 621 S. Belvidere St. Free. 786-2060

NFL Salute To Service -In honor of Veterans Day, for every point scored during the NFL’s Salute to Service games, the league will donate $1,000 to its three core non-profit partners – the Pat Tillman Foundation, USO and Wounded Warrior Project.

Victory Arch– Sponsored by American Legion, Braxton-Perkins Post #25, this annual ceremony is held at 11 a.m. at the Victory Arch, 25th Street and West Avenue, in downtown Newport News. After the ceremony, the public is invited learn about America’s rich military heritage at the Virginia War Museum.

Tips

  • Be sure to bring proof of military service.  Proof of military service varies by company.  See the list of states now offering a Veterans designation on a driver’s license.
  • Many of the free meals are dine in only.
  • Some promotions include small print that says participating locations only.  Individual franchisees may choose not to participate.  Always call ahead to verify.
